This Leather Artist's Sketchbook for watercolours is bound by hand in luxuriously tactile Navy Blue leather with Tan exposed spine stitching in the lay-flat Longstitch style. Available in A6 and A5 landscape, each size has 48 pages of reassuringly thick 300gsm / 140lb cold pressed Langton paper that takes wet media very well.
This handmade sketchbook is a thoughtful choice for artists who appreciate natural materials and fine craftsmanship, whether they enjoying working in watercolour or other wet media.
“In receipt of the sketchbook - wow, it is beautiful, thank you! I would not hesitate to recommend you personally or professionally.” - Rose, Suffolk
I chose 300gsm / 140lb cold pressed Langton paper to bind this sketchbook as it is sturdy, high quality and heps you create artwork you can feel really pleased with.
This watercolour paper is beloved by watercolour artists as it's thick and strong enough to allow repeated applications of wash without buckling, and to use wet-in-wet techniques as well as wet-in-dry, and elevate your artwork with subtle colour gradients and soft edges.
The pages are fine grain with a subtle texture that adds depth and dimension to your watercolour painting. These qualities also help you create finely detailed work for portraits and floral botanical painting, ideal if you find inspiration in the people and scenes around you.
As well as painting in watercolours, acrylic, gouache or ink, the sturdy, acid-free paper is also the perfect surface for mixed media work, calligraphy, drawing in pencil, charcoal, graphite or pastels.
Thanks to the attractive exposed spine binding, the pages lie flat so the sketchbook is easy to work in. Although this is a softcover book, it is extremely durable and will last your lifetime thanks to its archival materials and careful craftsmanship.
A leather fob with silver coloured metal stud keeps the sketchbook securely closed when not in use, making it ideal for travel. A discrete colophon attached to the inside of the book gives maker and materials details for handmade authenticity.
There is enough spine space in the binding to allow for a few inclusions, allowing you to create layered mixed media work. This means your handmade sketchbook is as versatile as your creativity, allowing you to work expressively and experiement with different media and techniques.
"Many thanks for excellent service and your enthusiasm for hand bound quality materials and design." - Patricia, Galloway
The A6 small is a particularly good size for travel; tuck it into a bag with a few essential supplies to take on your next creative adventure. Perhaps you're planning a painting holiday, or an afternoon sketching out landscapes en plein air in your local area?
The A5 medium size is still lightweight, but offers more space to work in and is great to use in your studio or creative corner at home for studies, colour mix charts and complete works, too.
