On Saturday I took advantage of a sunny afternoon and drove down to the Purbecks to visit Corfe Castle as I'm showing some work in The Boilerhouse Gallery for Purbeck Art Weeks. Julie Winsor kindly invited me to put some of my journals and notebooks in the gallery and I really enjoyed my visit which coincided with one of their regular Arty Bazaars with art, craft, music, food and drinks.
The gallery is situated on the steam train line and has great views towards Corfe Castle. Parking is just up the track and it's a great place to go walking.
Julie's gallery is light and full of treasures, including these feather mobiles:
There are also Julie's mixed media and folded sculptural book forms:
It was also good to visit Rollington Barn where I saw the work of designer and illustrator Kevin Williamson who I've recently enjoyed having along on my bookbinding evening class. I'm really taken with his digital screenprints of the Jurassic coast. It's a small world in the Dorset creative scene, and a very rich and varied one, too.
Dorset is a great place to live and visit either as a tourist or a tourist-at-home as I am. So if you get a chance, enjoy some of the countryside and seaside and visit Purbeck Art Weeks, on until 7 June. And do go along to the next Arty Bazaar at The Boilerhouse Gallery on 4th July. You'll find Julie's mixed media artwork, feather mobiles and folded sculptural book forms, ceramics from Rachel Fooks and lots more besides
Thanks again to Julie Winsor and The Boilerhouse Gallery.
Susan
