I'm very pleased to see one of my handmade Leather Journals featured in the Times recently. The feature, 'The most beautiful notebooks to buy now', reminds us of the benefits of writing by hand in a diary, notebook or journal, taking in historical figures such as Marcus Aurelius, Leonardo da Vinci Samuel Pepys, and Virginia Woolf, who relied on private writing to organise their thoughts. Of course, what else was there, in their time?

the Times feature
Today many of us use a mix of digital and analogue methods to take notes, make lists or keep a diary. When I design my handmade leather journals I place great importance on them being very practical, as well as very pleasurable to use.
I use historical binding styles that rely on laborious stitching of pages through the leather cover, ensuring the notebook will never fall apart. The leather is soft and smooth, with a gorgeously glossy grain, yet very durable. The paper is a dream to write on whether you prefer the glide of a fountain pen or the ease of a biro.
Every stage of the process is done by me, Susan Green. I've been a bookbinder since 2008 and since then I've been honoured make a range of Journals, Sketchbooks, Wedding Guest and Memory books for individuals, brands and organisations all over the world.

Whilst it's always wonderful to receive good press, it's especially meaningful when I am the only independent designer-maker featured alongside well-known luxury brands such as Smythson, Montblanc and Aspinal of London. My thanks to journalist Louisa McKenzie for this.
Whether you're a diarist, a maker of lists, or prefer to take notes by hand, the notebooks featured in the list are sure to provide great pleasure as well as practical convenience.
