Inspired by Victorian mourning stationery, this Cotton Rag Sketchbook with black velvet ribbon is a decidely gothic version of the original 'Wabi Sabi' Cotton Rag Sketchbooks. Available with or without a cover, the sketchbook's 210gsm handmade pages are ideal for wet or dry media, embroidery and mixed media. A great gift for Hallowe'en, Samhain or your favourite Goth's birthday.

A practical exposed spine sketchbook

Bound in the French Linkstitch style in fine black French linen thread, the pages of this cotton rag art journal lie flat on a surface, so it's a pleasure to work in. The book will also turn 360 degrees so you can display its pages standing up on a shelf in your studio, or for exhibition. Even if you add the optional cover, the sketchbook will stay open!

Features & Benefits

  • Wet media. The 210gsm cotton rag paper is acid-free and gelatine sized, so it has a nice weight and takes wet media really well.
  • Dry media. Its natural tooth and texture provides a good grip for dry media like charcoal and pencil, too. Because they're handmade, the pages have traditional deckle edges which make for a sublimely natural appearance that invites engagement and innovative creativity. 
  • Ecofriendly & ethical. The paper is fairtrade and handmade from textile industry offcuts, so it's sustainable, ethical and good for our planet.
  • Practical lay-flat binding. It's so easy to work in the sketchbook as its pages are lay-flat, thanks to the exposed spine binding. And when you want to put your sketchbook in a bag or store it, you can tie the tactile velvet ribbon to keep your book securely closed.

Design inspiration
