• Lay-flat binding The attractive exposed spine binding allows this sketchbook's pages to stay open a table, making it so easy and pleasurable to use. There's no need to weigh down the pages or hold them open with binder clips. The binding also allows you to work right into the gutter of each page, or across a page spread.
  
• Versatile surface I chose Seawhites 140gsm 'cupcycled' cartridge paper as a good all-rounder that offers a versatile surface to artists who like to use different media and techniques. It's sized and so will take light watercolour, writing in fountain pen or calligraphy with dip pens. It has a light tooth, great strength and withstands an eraser very well, so it's also ideal for drawing in pencil and other dry media, too. 
• Archival quality The cartridge paper is acid-free and archival, meaning colours remain as vibrant as they day you painted them. Because the binding is hand-stitched, without the use of glue, this book will last a lifetime - and beyond. 
• Heritage craftsmanship The Longstitch with Linkstitch binding is a time-honoured style that's been used for over 500 years, especially for books that need to be robust and take a lot of handling. Pages are traditionally hand folded and torn, and I print a discrete colophon on the final page detailing maker, binding and materials for handmade authenticity.
