If you're wondering whether portrait or landscape is right for you, or you're looking for some colour inspiration, scroll down for advice and pictures of some of the books I've made for my clients recently.
Although A4 portrait is technically the same size as A4 Landscape, just switched from horizontal to vertical format, a book in Portrait format somehow feels larger. I think that's because of the greater page height. Even so, portrait feels more manageable once open to a double page spread, probably becuase it takes up less space on a table (think two sheets of regular UK-sized printer paper side by side) but also because there is less weight either side of the spine binding.

A4 Large Portrait books measure 12 inches high by 8.5 inches wide (that's approximately 30 x 21 cm) and open up to a double page spread of 17 inches wide (approximately 42 cm).
An A4 Memory Book makes a brilliant scrapbook.
Portrait format is ideal for a Memory Book or Journal, where it's more likely that one person will be using them. More manageable, more portable, more intimate, yet feeling like a lot more space.
I'd still recommend landscape format for your Wedding Guest Book; they drape elegantly on a table and a couple of people can crowd around and write in them at a time. Place them on a table with some pens, perhaps some glue dots or photo corners so people can add instant photos on the day.
And landscape artists; well, a landscape Sketchbook will still be right for you!
